Droupadi Murmu, President of India, inaugurated multiple education-related projects virtually, including the ST Girls hostels at Mizoram University and Sairang Government Aizawl College- Maulpui, a permanent campus of IIMC- Indian Institute of Mass Communication at Aizawl and postgraduate block at Pacchunga University College on Thursday.

While addressing the 17th Convocation of Mizoram University, Murmu said that Mizoram University is a well-known university in the North-Eastern Region offering quality education. She said that the university made profound efforts in facilitating academics that resulted in extraordinary progress in the fields of Arts, Science, Engineering, Commerce, and Medical Sciences. It has earned the title- Institution of Eminence and taken some path-breaking initiatives.

The President said the university has three incubators for delivering innovative and practical training to students. She added the university signed an MoU with multiple universities and organisations at national and international levels for technological and academic collaborations.

Murmu said this set a new template for other higher education institutes to dig avenues for collaborating with national and international organisations and develop new benchmarks of excellence in technological and academic fields.

President Droupadi Murmu stated that convocation is a significant occasion to remember and determine the efforts of family members who have supported them throughout their journeys. The fact that girls constitute up to 50% of students who graduated in the academic session of 2021-2022 is noticeable, but it should grow at a higher rate. She added that we should ensure that the participation of women in education translates into expanded participation in the workforce.

In the end, Murmu said that the inauguration of two ST Girls hostels at Mizoram University and Sairang is a measure towards girl empowerment by offering access to quality education and other facilities. She added the inauguration of the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication at Aizawl would be a boost to the mass communication studies in the whole Northeast.
