The Union Government has signed an agreement with the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the World Bank for 250 million dollars. Through this project, the aim will be to improve the learning quality for more than 50 lakh students across the Andhra Pradesh state, notified an official.



On behalf of the Government of India, Additional Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance Rajat Kumar Mishra signed the agreement with the Principal Secretary of the Department School Education Budithi Rajsekhar, on behalf of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the Country Director, India on behalf of the World Bank Budithi Rajsekhar.



Through the project, the objective is to benefit school students from all classes. The beneficiaries are about 40 lakh students belonging to 06 years - 14 years of age across 45,000 govt schools, and over 10 lakh students belonging to 03 years - 06 years of age enrolled in Anganwadis (Integrated Child Development Centers), approx. 1,90,000 teachers, and over 50,000 Anganwadi workers.



Through the project, a one-year preschool-level course will be introduced in 3500 schools across the tribal blocks. This initiative will help in addressing the low learning levels issue amongst the tribal community.



The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance stated that the central idea of India's economic and social development is to provide universal access to quality education.



Under the project, support will be provided to the Andhra Pradesh state to fulfill its vision to transform govt schools into vibrant institutions which will focus on young children's foundational learning. It will also focus on addressing the learning loss caused to children due to the COVID pandemic.
