The Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Kashmir to provide distance education programmes to soldiers posted across the valley.



The Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Talat Ahmad has signed the MoU at Gandhi Hall of the University of Kashmir with the General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps Lt Gen D P Pandey, notified a Defence Spokesman.



He also called it was a historic decision for the UoK, Srinagar and Chinar Corps as now they have established a long term relationship to provide access to distance education programmes to soldiers presently serving in Kashmir valley.



According to the MoU, the Army soldiers posted in Kashmir valley will now be able to seek admission in various programmes offered by the Directorate of Distance Education under the University of Kashmir.



At present, a total of 18 courses are available for enrolment and the numbers will be increased in due course of time. These courses range from 06 months Certificate courses to 01-year Diploma courses to 02-years Postgraduate courses, he added.



Lt Gen Pandey, while addressing, applauded the landmark achieved in the Education stream as it will empower the Chinar Corps soldiers to perform their duties in a challenging environment.
