The Maharashtra government plans to join hands with several NGOs to improve the standards of education imparted in government-aided schools. As per the plan, there will be at least one NGO per district operating towards better (FLN)- Foundational Literacy and Numeracy among school children.
As part of this cooperation, about 2.5 lakh Mata Gats (Mothers’ Groups) have been created across the state to guarantee parents’ contribution to the holistic education of children up to Class 3.
Further, numerous training modules are being run for district-level officers of the state’s school education department by some NGOs to provide an effective formulation and execution of policies.
State Project Director Samagra Shiksha Maharashtra Prashtamik Shikshan Parishad Kailas Pagare said the concept of mothers’ groups is to facilitate them with tactics that they can use during their daily activities at home with children to guarantee their learning continues. After all, education must continue at home, post-schools, and the atmosphere at home should contribute to it.
The Samagra Shiksha MPSP has introduced these partnerships under the NIPUN Bharat initiative launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Government of India. The view is to involve NGOs in the education sector by aligning their actions with the state’s vision to enhance learning outcomes in government-aided schools.
According to the information from the officials, the collaboration will include around 37 NGOs. There are 36 districts, and there will be at least one NGO functioning with the MPSP.
Districts will need a targeted approach on the basis of local needs and limitations. This gap can be bridged with an NGO actively working in that district.
The initiative- Mata Gats (mothers’ group) is being enforced by Pratham- one of the 37 NGOs.
Pratham is also training and motivating older kids to self-study in five districts.
Another NGO, Leadership for Equity (LFE), is working with district-level officers to strengthen the procedure of governance.
