The Meghalaya government has signed an agreement with the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru to set up the PA Sangma Fellowship.

The Fellowship will be awarded for Legal and Policy Research to NLSIU students for undertaking research activities in Meghalaya state, notified officials.

It will also aid students in acquiring experience on the current law and policy disputes and will provide capacity-building programs and training to law officers and officials of other govt depts.

Law Minister James PK Sangma said, "This will be a great learning experience for the fellows because the transition they would have made from the classroom environment to understanding the ground realities of law and policy in implementation, is something which is important".

The Vice-chancellor of NLSIU Sudhir Krishnaswamy also accentuated the requirement to provide greater exposure to students to allow them to acquire practical experiences for the future.
