For the 1st phase of the Mission Schools of Excellence project, a total of 3,081 govt primary and secondary schools from 2,074 clusters across 04 municipal corporations and 33 districts have been shortlisted. The Mission Schools of Excellence project is being funded by the World Bank.



Out of the total 3081 govt schools, a total of 2575 primary and 506 secondary schools across the state have been selected.



The World Bank team arrived on a 04-day visit to the state. The team also held 1st round of meetings with the Education Ministers and the officials of the Education Department.



Through the project, the aim is to transform around 20,000 govt primary and secondary schools over the next five years out of which 3,000 will be transformed in the first phase, 7,000 in the second phase, and 10,000 in the third phase. The project will also provide global facilities to these schools.



During the workshop, World Bank representative Shabnam Sinha and her team conducted the mandatory deliberations on phased planning of the project.



The WB team will also visit schools in Sabarkantha and Mehsana districts during their visit to Gujarat.



Under the project, one school from each cluster is being represented, whereas several clusters across different districts are representing more than one school. Among these, the highest number of shortlisted schools belong to Banaskantha district (168 schools from 124 clusters) in the 1st phase followed by Amreli (132 from 70 clusters), Rajkot (131 schools from 85 clusters), and Mehsana (123 schools from 72 clusters).



The World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank have funded more than Rs. 8000 crores. This project will benefit over 90% of students enrolled in govt schools across the state
