NCERT to Bring a Balanced Viewpoint of Genders in the New Curriculum, Textbooks
On Monday, the report of the Reforms in Content and Design of School Text Books Committee on the measure taken by the government on its proposals and observations was proposed in Parliament.

According to the reports from a parliamentary committee, the NCERT will work towards bringing a balanced perspective of all genders in the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and its textbooks.
Earlier, the panel recommended addressing the under-representation of women and girls in school textbooks or them being portrayed only in traditional roles- a comprehensive analysis from the perspective of gender discrimination and stereotypes should be undertaken by the NCERT.
It also said that the curriculum needs efforts to make content portrayal and visual depiction gender inclusive.
On Monday, the report of the Reforms in Content and Design of School Text Books Committee on the measure taken by the government on its proposals and observations was proposed in Parliament.
It said the committee was notified that the NCERT had taken note of all the problems introduced by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Children, Women, Sports, and Youth and will contribute adequately to bring a balanced viewpoint of all the gender in the NCF, syllabus, and textbooks which will be formed as a follow up of NCFs. The procedure of developing NCFs has already been started by the NCERT.
Earlier, the panel had also suggested that textbooks should have a marvelous portrayal of women in new and arising professions as role models with a great emphasis on their contributions and pathway to achieving the same.
It said this initiative would help instill self-esteem and self-confidence among all, particularly girls.
The panel informed that while studying the textbooks, subjects like environmental sensitivity, human values, problems among children with special needs, etc., can also be examined for adequate inclusion in the School textbooks.
