The Supreme Court has refused to entertain appeals seeking deferment of NEET-UG 2021. The medical entrance exam is scheduled to be conducted on Sept 12, 2021.

The students are seeking the postponement of the medical entrance exam as several exams are being conducted within a week with no gap.

The top court took the decision while hearing a plea filed by a group of students who are appearing in private/ compartment/ patrachar exams conducted by CBSE as they are seeking a deferment of NEET exam scheduled to be held on Sept 12.

The top court refused to interfere while directing them to move their representation to the National Testing Agency. The Agency conducts the NEET UG exam.

The Court also directed the Agency to take rapid decisions on the representation.

A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, CT Ravikumar and Hrishikesh Roy stated that the deferment decision of NEET will affect over 16 lakh students who have registered for the entrance exam. The deferment could also clash with other exams, added the bench.

The Court also advised the students who are appearing in the CBSE exams that they must make a choice about which exam they wish to appear in. The students also requested the Court to provide opt out facility to the students so they can attempt the second chance. The students also complained that the pattern of the examination has been changed and they need time to prepare according to the new pattern.
