PM Modi Announced Scheme To Support Children Orphaned Due To COVID

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched a web-based portal 'pmcaresforchildren.in'. The portal has been launched to support children who have lost surviving parent/ guardian or both parents due to the COVID pandemic.

The portal will help in identification of the eligible children under the scheme to receive support.

The scheme has been announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the complete care and protection of the orphaned children in a sustained manner.

The portal will help through health insurance and education to empower and equip them for self-sufficient existence. The financial support of Rs. 10 lakh will also be provided on reaching the age of 23 years.

The eligibility criteria includes children who have lost both surviving parent/ guardian or both parents or legal guardian due to COVID.

The Ministry has also asked the chief secretaries/ administrators of all states/ UTs to order their DMs to identify the children who are eligible under the scheme 'PM Cares For Children' so that they can be assisted promptly. They have also been directed to complete the registration process within 15 days.

The Ministry has also issued a dedicated helpdesk which can be accessed by email at pmcareschildren.wcd@nic.in and by phone at 011-23388074.
