On Friday, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, launched several projects of the Union Ministry of Education at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneshwar.

While addressing the occasion, Murmu said these initiatives are a step toward making education accessible to all. She said it is observed that numerous students face difficulty in understanding technical education in the English language. As a result, the government has taken measures to deliver technical education in the regional languages under the National Education Policy 2020.

President said there is no doubt that the mother tongue helps academic development in students. She added learning in the mother tongue will generate creative thinking and analytical skills among students. It will also offer equal opportunities to urban and rural students. Before, technical education in regional tongues used to face hindrances due to the non-availability of books in vernacular languages. AICTE carried out actions to remove this hurdle.

President Murmu said that education is a mechanism for empowerment. We must ensure that every child in the nation has access to education at every tier. We must do our best to make education available to all without discrimination. Language should be an enabling element, not a barrier to educating the students. The introduction of learning in regional and local languages will go a long way toward constructing a well-educated, conscious and vibrant society.

Odia is an old and rich language. It has a different literary tradition and contains a rich vocabulary. Therefore, there will be no difficulty bringing technical education to the Odia language. She added that all Indian languages have more or less the same potential. Under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), equal priority is given to all Indian languages.
