On Wednesday, the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry launched a computational skills training programme for teachers of (EMRS) Eklavya Model Residential Schools for tribal students in collaboration with Amazon. The face-to-face two-day training workshop for the teachers of 54 Eklavya Model Residential Schools of six states- Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, and Telangana Telangana concentrates on early access to computer science education for tribal and further communities.
Amazon Future Engineer (AFE)-CSR programme aims to develop the interest among students in exploring higher education and a career in computer science. It also offers teachers the required resources and support to create awareness about computer science and promote its learning. One of the purposes is to launch the Amazon Future Engineer programme in the 54 schools in these six states having access to digital infrastructure, including a computer lab and active internet connectivity.
Course modules will include computer science fundamentals, logical sequencing, introduction to coding, learning loops, class chat sessions to discuss tech space, block programming using open secure source platforms, diverse tech initiatives, etc. As part of a central sector scheme introduced in 1997-1998, residential schools have been constructed in remote areas to deliver high-quality education to tribal students. So far, the ministry has approved 684 such schools, of which 378 are reported to be functional.
