Two schemes have been launched by the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to provide financial support to college students and literary bodies of the Assam state. The schemes are Pragyan Bharati Scheme and Bhasha Gourab.



Under Pragyan Bharati Scheme, Rs. 1500 each were distributed to 3,26,046 college students for purchasing text-books whereas for the free admission of 04 lakh eligible students, the amount of Rs. 16 crores were reimbursed.



The state government, under Bhasha Gourab scheme, provided Rs. 43 crores to 21 literary bodies (Sahitya Sabhas) as a contribution towards their maintenance/ corpus fund. Under this scheme, Rs. 50,000 have already been granted to 600 writers to assist in their literary activities.



The CM also said, "The young generation must strive for knowledge through education and utilise the opportunity provided by the two schemes". He further added that the government is committed to delivering higher education to the poorest section of the society. He also urged parents and teachers to motivate their children and students to participate in cultural and sports activities.



As Literature is a reflection of society, the Assam government is committed to provide monetary support to indigenous Sahitya Sabhas and writers, he further added.



Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister, also informed that the steps have been taken by the state govt. to provide primary education in mother tongues to all the students till Class 5.
