The Chairman of the University Grants Commission Jagadesh Kumar has announced to launch 05 fellowship and research grants on the occasion of Teachers' Day. This initiative will also include schemes for the single girl child and retired faculty members.



Kumar said, "On the occasion of Teachers' Day, UGC is announcing several research schemes which will benefit Higher Educational Institutions across the country". These new fellowships will be launched at the online portals of UGC at 03 pm today.



The five schemes are:





  • Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child: The aim of this fellowship is to promote the education of single girl child and to encourage them to pursue research work leading to Ph.D. degrees as it has no fix slot limit. The tenure of the fellowship is of five years.




  • Dr Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship: This fellowship will offer an opportunity to pursue advanced studies and research in Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences, and Engineering and Technology including languages in Indian institutions and universities. Under this fellowship, a total of 900 seats will be offered, out of which 30% are reserved for women candidates. The shortlisted candidates will be granted Rs 50,000/ annum as contingency and Rs 50,000/ month as part of the fellowship.




  • Fellowship for Superannuated Faculty Members: This fellowship is launched to provide research opportunities to retired teachers. A total of 100 slots are available under this fellowship. The shortlisted candidates will be granted Rs 50,000/ annum as a contingency and Rs 50,000/ month as part of the fellowship.




  • Research Grant for In-Service Faculty Members: The aim of this fellowship is to provide research opportunities to faculty members appointed on regular basis. The support of Rs. 10 lakh will be provided to 200 shortlisted candidates for the two years tenure.




  • Dr DS Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members: The scheme will offer research opportunities to faculty members appointed on regular basis. The support of Rs. 10 lakh will be provided to 132 shortlisted candidates for the two years tenure.
