The world celebrates World Sparrow Day every year on March 20 in order to increase awareness about the bird. The day seeks to boost public awareness about the house sparrow and other common birds in urban environments and the dangers they face.
World Sparrow Day also has a more comprehensive vision to deliver a platform where people working on protecting the House Sparrow and other common birds can interact, cooperate and exchange conservation ideas- which will direct to better science and improved results.
World Sparrow Day History
World Sparrow Day is an international measure initiated by the Nature Forever Society (NFS) of India in association with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and multiple other national and international organisations across the globe. The concept of celebrating World Sparrow Day came up during an informal conversation over tea at the Nature Forever Society's office.
The first World Sparrow Day was observed in 2010 in diverse parts of the world.
The House Sparrow Day aims to convey a message of conservation of the House Sparrow and other common birds and celebrate the common biodiversity that we take for granted.
