National Girl Child Day is observed on 24 January every year in order to spread awareness about the inequalities confronted by girls in Indian society and also to boost awareness about the rights of the girl child and the significance of female education, health, and nutrition.



National Girl Child Day is in line with different campaigns and programmes of the Indian government, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and Save the Girl Child.



National Girl Child Day aims to deliver support and opportunities to the girls of India. In India, gender inequality is one of the primary issues that is required to be focused on, and it exists in several areas, including education, legal rights, marriage, medical care, etc. Female foeticide is another major problem that further impacts the demographic issues in India.



National Girl Child Day History



National Girl Child Day was first started in 2008 by the Ministry of Women & Child Development. The main objective behind this day is to emphasize the inequalities confronted by girls and to boost awareness, including the rights of a girl child and the significance of education, health, and nutrition. Nowadays also, gender bias is a primary concern that girls and women face throughout their life.



No doubt, the step of the Government of India (GOI) to observe National Girl Child Day is an advancement mission for young girls and also a promotion of the importance of girls as a child.



National Girl Child Day Theme 2023



The Government of India has not officially declared a theme for National Girl Child Day 2023. However, as per the information, the celebration this year will be around the slogan- Digital Generation, Our Generation, Our Time is Now—Our Rights, Our Future.
