Every year on 15 September, the Engineer's Day is celebrated around the nation. The day is celebrated to pay tribute to MV Visvesvaraya who was an eminent Indian engineer.



Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted on the auspicious occasion to all engineers. He also tweeted, "Greetings to all Engineers on Engineers Day. We remember Sir M. Visvesvaraya on his Jayanti. India is proud of the contribution of our engineers towards nation building".



Born to Sanskrit scholars, his primary education and graduation in Arts were from Bangalore. After that, he pursued civil engineering from the Pune College of Engineering and had expertise in irrigation and flood disaster management streams.



He is known for his work as an engineer in Krishna Raja Sagar Dam and flood protection system for Hyderabad city. He also established the Government Engineering college now famous as University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering. He was also the Governing Council member of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.



In 1951, he authored his autobiography named 'Memoirs of My Working Life'. He was honoured with Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire (in 1915) and Bharat Ratna (in 1955).
