Every year on September 09, the Himalayan Day is celebrated across the nation. The day is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of the ecosystem of the Himalayas and to also underline the various concerns related to it.
The first time the day was celebrated in 2010 in Uttrakhand as an initiative of some eminent environmentalists Radha Behen, and Sundarlal Bahuguna.
The theme for the year 2020 is 'Contribution of Himalayas and Our Responsibility'. Dr. Joshi, an environmentalist and founder chairman of Himalayan Unit Mission congratulated on the day and said, "This was the fifth year of the celebration. We felt that the political parties also needed to understand the need to address livelihood issues in the Himalayan region and work towards the conservation of the region".
A webinar was also arranged to celebrate the day which was attended by Dr. Pokhriyal, Union Education Minister; M Venkaiah Naidu, Vice-President; Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State for Finance; and Kiran Rijiju, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports.
