The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) have formalized a unique collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to revolutionize research in the pursuit of sustainable mobility, aligning with Mercedes-Benz's ambitious goal for all upcoming vehicle models to achieve carbon neutrality across their life cycles and value chains by 2039.



This alliance, centered on tackling global challenges locally, seeks to ignite a new wave of joint research endeavors, talent cultivation, and pioneering innovations. It's set to trigger groundbreaking engineering transformations and propel long-term, research-driven projects. Leveraging the strengths of both entities, including their infrastructure and educational programs, this collaboration is primed to push the frontiers of innovation forward.



In addition to promoting research exchanges, educational materials, and scientific publications, the collaboration will actively explore shared funding avenues for research papers. Moreover, it will foster an environment for intellectual property development, safeguarding, and sponsorship.



Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the Indian Institute of Science, emphasized the profound impact of research in sustainable mobility and electric vehicles. He underlined the pivotal role of such research in not only achieving energy autonomy but also in generating substantial economic prospects. Prof. Rangarajan expressed strong optimism about the enduring impact of fostering collaborative partnerships between academia and industry, particularly in these critical domains.
