The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) and Ericsson have joined forces to conduct collaborative research in Artificial Intelligence (AI), computing, and radio technology.
The partnership, marked by the signing of two agreements, aims to facilitate researchers from both institutions in developing innovative AI solutions and distributing computing technologies for 6G research.
A symposium dedicated to radio and network research convened at the GS Sanyal School of Telecommunications (GSSST), where leaders from Ericsson Research and IIT Kharagpur delved into discussions on the future landscape of networks and communication.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of AI and computing research in shaping the future of 6G networks, Ericsson emphasizes the dynamic management of compute offload at the network edge, primarily steered by AI-driven policies, according to an official statement.
The research themes resonate seamlessly with the vision of IIT Kharagpur, and both entities envision this collaboration as an avenue to push the boundaries of fundamental and applied research within the radio domain.
IIT Kharagpur aims to contribute significantly to the 6G era, spanning radio access technology, core network development, RF and device technologies, VLSI Design, neuromorphic signal processing, services, and applications.
The collaboration with Ericsson holds immense potential for next-generation technology. The integration of 6G networks with artificial intelligence is poised to empower AI-driven applications, enhancing their speed and efficiency.
The institute also aspires to actively participate in telecommunications standardization, contribute to the creation of test beds, drive prototype development, spearhead commercialization efforts, and play a pivotal role in comprehensive training and manpower development.
