Every year on May 15, International Day of Families is observed across the nation to promote awareness regarding the families' problems and to enhance the knowledge of the social, demographic and economic processes affecting families.

In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly took the decision, under the resolution of A/RES/47/237, to observe the May 15 of every year as the International Day of Families.

The 2021 theme of session 59 of the Commission for Social Development is 'Socially just transition towards sustainable development: the role of digital technologies on social development and well-being of all' which will focus on the new technologies' impact on the well-being of families.

The current megatrends including new technologies, rapid urbanization, demographic shifts, migration trends, and climate change, have been shaping the world. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of digital technologies for education, work, and communication.
