Every year on March 20, International Day of Happiness is celebrated across the world to highlight the importance of happiness in day-to-day life and people around the globe.
Since 2013, the International Day of Happiness is being celebrated by the United Nations but the resolution for the day was passed on July 12, 2012. Bhutan was the first country to emphasize on the importance of national happiness over national income and was also the first in initiating the resolution.
United Nations, in 2015, launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which aspire to end poverty, reduce inequality and protect the planet. These 03 main aspects lead to well-being and happiness.
The 2021 theme for the International day of Happiness is 'Happiness For All, Forever' which expresses the significance of happiness across the world.
The Centre for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network invite people of all ages from classrooms, governments and businesses across the globe to observe the day and participate in launching of the 2021 World Happiness Report.
According to the report, Finland has been ranked as the happiest country whereas Afghanistan has claimed the least happy nation rank. India has scored 139th rank out of 149 countries in the report. The top five countries are: 1) Finland, 2) Denmark, 3)Switzerland, 4) Iceland, 5)Netherlands.
