Every year on Sept 21, the International Day Of Peace is observed across the world to strengthen the principles of peace, through 24 hours observation of non-violence and cease-fire.

In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Peace and 02 decades later, the General Assembly, in 2001, designated the Day, through a unanimous vote, as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.

In 2021, as we are fighting and healing from the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects, there is a need to think collectively and creatively to support everyone recover better, to build resilience, and to transform this world into one that is more just, equal, inclusive, sustainable, healthier, and equitable.

Along with the prevailing COVID situation, there is a requirement to reconcile with nature as well. Despite the economic shutdowns and travel restrictions, climate change is not on a halt. The world needs a green and sustainable global economy that reduces emissions, produces jobs, and builds perseverance to climate impacts.

The theme for the International Day of Peace 2021 is 'Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World'.

Mistrust and division are driving people apart at a time when solidarity and collaboration are needed more than ever.

We face a stark choice — peace or perpetual peril.

We must always choose peace. It is the only pathway to a better future. #PeaceDay
