International Day To Protect Education From Attack

For the first time, the International Day to Protect Education from Attack is being celebrated around the world. The day is celebrated on 09 September 2020 and te theme for the year 2020 is 'Protect Education, Save a Generation'.



To raise cognizance of the extremity of billions of children residing in countries affected by disputes, the day is established after unanimous decision made by the General Assembly of the United Nations. The General Assembly has appealed UNICEF and UNESCO to raise awareness regarding the cause.



As per the Global Coalition to Protect Education From Attack, there have been around 11,000 reported assaults on education in more than 36 countries over the last five years. More than 21,000 students, academics, and educators have been harmed, killed, arrested in assaults from 2015 to 2019.



According to the resolution of the General Assembly, it should be the primary responsibility of the government to ensure inclusive and impartial quality education and the protection of education for all the students especially those in unguarded situations.



Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, said, "We must ensure our children have a safe and secure environment in which to learn the knowledge and skills they need for the future".
