Every year on April 22, International Earth Day is celebrated across the world as a reminder to protect the environment, revitalize destructed ecosystems and live a sustainable life. It was first celebrated in 1970, but now it is recognized globally.

On April 22, 1970, the United States celebrated the first Earth Day. More than 20 million people around the U.S. did rallies, and demonstrations and participated in activities to promote a clean and safe living environment.

Earth Day is celebrated as a worldwide phenomenon focused on promoting clean living and a healthy, sustainable habitat for people and wildlife. Celebrating Earth Day serves as a reminder of how fragile our planet is and how important it is to protect it.

According to the world's largest recruiter to the environmental movement earthday.org, the mission is to 'diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide'.

The United Nations observes this Day through the initiative 'Harmony with Nature', a platform for global sustainable development celebrated annually with an interactive conference on International Mother Earth Day.

The 2022 theme of World Earth Day is 'Invest In our Planet'.

On this International Mother Earth Day, let's remind ourselves of the urgency to shift to a more sustainable economy that serves both the planet and people.

Secretary-General of the UN, on the occasion, said, "We have proven that together, we can tackle monumental challenges. And the right to a healthy environment is gaining traction. But we need to do much more. And much faster. Especially to avert climate catastrophe."
