Every year on Feb 28, National Science Day is celebrated across the nation to commemorate the 'Raman Effect' discovery. Physicist CV Raman won Nobel Prize in 1930 for his discovery of the 'Raman Effect'.
The objective of the day is also to spread the awareness regarding the importance of science and its application in physical world.
The 2021 theme for National Science Day is 'Future of Science and Technology and Innovation: Impact on Education, Skills and Work'.
With the aim to promote science & innovation, the National Science Communication Awards is presented by the govt. every year on National Science Day. Instituted in 1987, the award aims to recognize the efforts in the stream of S&T and to encourage the young generation.
Several schemes are also being implemented by the government to encourage students of the nation towards science and technology. One of the major scheme, the 'Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research' is to motivate, attract, support and train meritorious students to study science and choose career options related to science and technology.
In Budget 2021-22, the Centre has also allocated a sum of Rs. 50 crores for the National Research Foundation for the duration of 05 years to support researchers.
