Teacher's Day is celebrated around the world to honour the teachers, their effort and hard work in shaping the future of the students, and for their special contribution in general. In India, Teacher's Day is celebrated on September 05 which is also the birth anniversary of the second President of India, Sarvepalli, Radhakrishnan.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was an academic, philosopher and statesman who also served as the first Vice President of India. He was the first Indian who was a professor at the University of Oxford. He was also accorded several accolades including in 1931 a Knighthood, in 1954 the highest civilian award in India - Bharat Ratna, and in 1963 honorary membership of the British Royal 'Order of Merit'.
He firmly believed that teachers should be the best minds in the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to teachers and thanked them for their contribution in shaping minds and building nation. He tweeted, "We remain grateful to the hardworking teachers for their contribution towards shaping minds and building our nation. On Teacher's Day, we express gratitude to our teachers for their remarkable efforts. We pay tributes to Dr. S Radhakrishnan on his Jayanti". He also tweeted, "#OurTeachersOurHeroes".
Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, also greeted teachers on this auspicious occasion.
