Every year on January 10, the World Hindi Day is observed across the world to promote the use of the Hindi language.



In 2006, the first World Hindi Conference was scheduled in Nagpur with the objective to promote the Hindi language worldwide on this day and since then, the day is being observed as the WHD. The day is also observed by the Indian Missions abroad and the Ministry of External Affairs.



Prakash Javadekar, Information and Broadcasting Minister and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Education Minister also wished the citizens on the occasion. Dr. Pokhriyal also said, " Hindi language is the key to establishing unity in diversity". He further added, "The languages play an important role in the social, political, and cultural development of a country".



Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, also tweeted, "Hindi is one of the most spoken languages of the world. On the World Hindi Day, we celebrate linguistic diversity to better understand each other".
