Every year on Jan 10, World Hindi Day is celebrated across the globe to raise awareness about Hindi as an International Language and to promote the use of the language.

In 2006, the first World Hindi Conference was scheduled in Nagpur with the objective to promote the Hindi language worldwide on this day. In 2006, Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, announced January 10 to be observed as World Hindi Day and, since then, the day is being observed as the WHD. The day is also observed by the Indian Embassies abroad and the Ministry of External Affairs.

The objective of the Day is also to emphasize the passion for the language as Hindi is the 4th most spoken language across the globe after English, Spanish and Mandarin. In India, it is one of the two official languages along with English.

World Hindi Day is different from the National Hindi Diwas which is observed on Sept 14 every year to commemorate the adoption of the Hindi language as one of the official languages by India's Constituent Assembly.

The theme of the WHD 2022 is 'To make Hindi a part of public opinion'.
