Every year on Oct 05, World Teachers' Day, also known as International Teachers' Day, is observed to recognize Teachers and contemplate issues related to teaching.

The objective of the Day is to appreciate and assess the performance of the teachers and contemplate the changes required for effective teaching.

The Day is congregated in collaboration with UNICEF, International Labour Organization, and Education International.

On this Day, the '1966 ILO/ UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers' was adopted. These recommendations lay down standards regarding the responsibilities and rights of teachers, benchmarks for their initial preparation and further education, employment, recruitment, and teaching & learning environment. The recommendation regarding the higher education teaching personnel's status was adopted in 1997.

More than 100 nations celebrate the day across the globe to honour teachers & their efforts and to create awareness about their importance and need for future generations.

The theme of World Teachers' Day 2021 is "Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery".

UNESCO, UNICEF, ILO, and Education International, in a joint statement, said, "On World Teachers' Day, we are not only celebrating every teacher. We are calling on countries to invest in them and prioritize them in global education recovery efforts so that every learner has access to a qualified and supported teacher. Let’s stand with our teachers!"

The Joint ILO-UNESCO CEART (Committee of Experts on the Application of the Recommendations concerning Teaching Personnel) is also organizing a 05-day event from Oct 04 to Oct 08, 2021, to celebrate the Day.
