Every year on Feb 11, World Unani Day is celebrated across the world to spread awareness about the Unani System of Medicine and its health care delivery through its curative and preventive philosophy.



The day is also celebrated every year to symbolize the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan who was an eminent Indian Unani Physician. He was a versatile genius, a social reformer, a great scholar, a well-known freedom fighter, an Unani educational instructor and an architect of scientific research in the Unani System of Medicine. He was also one of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.



On the occasion, a hybrid virtual 'National Conference on Unani Medicine' was organized by the CCRUM (Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine) which was inaugurated by Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State, Youth Affairs & Sports, AYUSH and Minister of State, Minority Affairs, Govt. of India in the presence of Secretary of Ministry of AYUSH Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Additional Secretary of Ministry of AYUSH Pramod Kumar Pathak, Director General of CCRUM Prof. Asim Ali Khan, and Joint Advisor (UNANI) of Ministry of AYUSH Dr. M.A.Qasmi.



The theme of the conference was 'Unani Medicine: Opportunities and Challenges in times of COVID-19'.



Minister Kiren Rijiju, while inaugurating, said that Unani medicine is the most capable system to ensure the complete physical, mental and social well-being of the people.



The dignitaries, while concluding the conference, also released a Conference Souvenir 'Research on Fundamentals of Unai Medicine - A Summary of Studies Conducted by CCRUM' and 'A Handbook of Common Remedies in Unani Medicine'.
