14 IIT-G Students Chosen For PMRF Scheme

14 research scholars have been selected from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati for the PMRF (Prime Minister's Research Fellowship) Scheme. All the selected students are enrolled in interdisciplinary programmes and have been selected through lateral entry channel.



The selected IIT-G students are: Neelarnab Dutta, Jegyasu, Rupresha Deb, Samik Mitra, Rajnandan Das, Subhankar Biswas, Sampreet Kalita, Tripti Paul, Souradeep Dey, Kumudhini Akasapu, Kakali Borah, Ankit Chowdhury, Aniket Banerjee, and Hinadree Das.



The scheme is the Government of India's initiative to attract the supreme talents from the nation who wish to pursue immoderate research at IIT-G as the Prime Minister visualizes to have integrated technology development and self-reliance through innovation. The scheme also aims to bring forth the full potential of the selected candidates and to guide them accordingly to achieve their career objectives while contributing to the nation's growth at the same time, as stated by Professor TG Sitharam, Director of IIT-G.



Under the PMRF scheme, each candidate will be granted a monthly fellowship of Rs. 70,000 for the first two years. For the 3rd year Rs. 75,000 will be granted and Rs. 80,000 for the 4th and 5th year. Furthermore, each candidate will also be eligible to get Rs. 02 lakh/ year as a research grant which concludes to Rs. 10 lakh for five years.



Each candidate will be given advancements to accomplish that will be decided by their assigned guide keeping in mind the topic selected by candidates for research. These deliverables will be reviewed annually.



Designed and announced in the 2018-19 budget, the scheme not only aims to upgrade the quality of research but also to provide opportunities in higher educational institutions across the country. The PMRF scheme is regulated by the Union Ministry of Education to nurture and boost the growth of scientists and engineers in the country.
