CUET- The Common University Entrance Test has managed to bring in equality of scores of students belonging to diverse school boards across the nation. With the adoption of the CUET scores for undergraduate admissions, there is an abrupt fall in the number of students of the Kerala Board who secured entry to courses at Delhi University this year. The number of Kerala students who made it to prominent colleges in the national capital has also decreased.
Statistics reveal that only 350 students from the Kerala Board were assigned seats in the university before the third round of admissions was completed.
This is a 79% decline as last year, the number of students from Kerala board who got admissions to Delhi University institutes was 1,672. The third round of admissions to DU got over only recently. Spot admissions will start on November 20.
The data was released after the second round of admissions was finished. Though the Kerala Board was in fourth place in terms of Delhi University admissions last academic year, this year, the State Board has been relegated to seventh place.
The number of students from Kerala who got admission this year to prestigious institutions such as Miranda House, Hindu College, Ramjas, and LSR is less.
The previous year, 120 out of 146 candidates who reserved admission for the Political Science BA (Honours) programme at the Hindu College were from the Kerala Board. However, this year, out of 59 students who got admission for the same course/programme, only one is from the Kerala Board.
While the marks scored in the XII standard were considered for admissions till the previous year, this time, they were based on The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) performance.
As usual, the plurality of the students who secured admission to the university are students from schools affiliated with the CBSE.
In contrast, just 556 students from the Bihar Board had won admissions in the previous academic year, while their number raised to 1,280 this year.
