The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has unveiled an exceptional opportunity by introducing seven new online courses focusing on Sports Science. These courses, available for free online, aim to bridge theory with real-world applications, catering specifically to the Indian and South Asian body structures and cultural nuances.

Scheduled to commence classes on February 19, 2023, the courses offer an expansive understanding of sports science. Aspiring candidates can apply for these courses through the NPTEL website at nptel.ac.in/courses.

Here's the list of newly introduced courses:

1. Strength & Conditioning for the Indian Population

2. Sports and Performance Nutrition

3. Fundamentals of Sports Training, Load Management and Recovery

4. Essentials of Sports Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation

5. Human Movement Science

6. Introduction to Exercise Physiology & Sports Performance

7. Sports Psychology

Led by the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a collaboration of seven Indian Institutes of Technology along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, these courses aim to address the nation's unique sports needs. The curriculum encompasses areas such as performance enhancement, dietary and training regimes, and recovery programs, offering a holistic approach to sports science.

The eligibility criteria for these courses require a Class 12 passing certificate. Tailored for Bachelor's and Master's students in Sports Sciences, Physiotherapy, Physical Education, and related fields, the courses pave the way for pursuing diplomas or postgraduate degrees in these specialized areas.

While the courses are available on the SWAYAM platform, the final exams, to be held in person, are center-based and proctored, with an examination fee of Rs 1,000 per course.
