The Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar has developed India's first indigenous temperature data logger AmbiTAG for the cold chain management.

It's a one-of-its-kind IoT device to record the real-time ambient temp during the transportation of vaccines, perishable products, blood and even organs. This record helps in determining the use of that particular item because of the variation in temperature while transporting. This information is critical in case of transportation of COVID vaccines, blood and organs.

The device is shaped as a USB and it continuously records the surrounding temperature. It can record temperature from -40 degree to +80 degree for 90 days in any time zone on a single charge.

It has been developed under Technology Innovation Hub - Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub (AWaDH) and it's startup ScratchNest.

AWaDH Project Coordinator Dr. Suman Kumar informed that devices available in international market records only 30-60 days data.

Dr. Kumar also informed that AmbiTAG generates an alert in case the temperature crosses a predetermined limit. The data which has been recorded can be retrieved by connecting the device with the computer.

The device can also be used to monitor the temp of vegetables, dairy products, meat, and animal semen.

The device will be made available to all companies to transport Covid vaccines from production facilities to vaccination centres at the cost of Rs. 400 only.

Prof Pushpendra Singh, Project Director of AWaDH, said that it is their small contribution to help the nation against the COVID.
