The discovery of a near-Earth asteroid has been made by the two 10th class girls. The news has been confirmed by NASA and the asteroid has been named HLV2514. The asteroid was discovered as a part of their 2-month science programme which was being held at their school.



Both the girls, Vaidehi Vekariya Sanjaybhai and Radhika Lakhani Prafulbhai, belong to Surat, India and are students of PP Savani Chaitnya Vidya Sankul. The NASA confirmed the news of the discovery and a confirmation letter has also been sent in this regard.



The Science Programme, where this amazing discovery was made, was organized by Space India in association with IASC (International Astronomical Search Collaboration) and Hardy Simmons University in Texas. The telescope used by the girls was the Pan Starrs telescope in Hawaii which has advanced qualities such as high-grade CCD cameras and a higher field of view.
