In a commendable effort to support talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, a pioneering initiative has been introduced to provide financial assistance during their medical careers. The approach entails a generous scholarship program designed for meritorious students in their first year of the MBBS course facing financial barriers.

This transformative scholarship program has received a substantial boost with a donation of Rs 5 lakh from Ramesh Chandra Gupta, an esteemed alumnus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Gupta, a distinguished former professor and head of the department of metallurgical engineering at IT-BHU (now IIT-BHU), has chosen to honor the memory of his close relatives, Dr. Bhoj Raj Varma and Smt. Shanti Varma, by dedicating this scholarship in their names.

The scholarship, aptly named the Dr. Bhoj Raj Varma and Smt. Shanti Varma Memorial Scholarship will be administered under the Pratidana scheme, which serves as a conduit for philanthropic contributions to BHU.

The scholarship will provide a significant financial boost to eligible students in their first year of the MBBS program, with each recipient receiving Rs 25,000. This financial support will help alleviate the challenges posed by the high costs of medical education, ensuring that deserving students can focus on their studies and achieve their full potential.
