The Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry's Honourable François-Philippe Champagne has announced the launch of the CUBICS (CubeSats Initiative in Canada for STEM). Under this initiative, the govt is providing a great opportunity for post-secondary professors and students to participate in a real space mission.

Through CUBICS, teams will be challenged to develop projects to support advance scientific knowledge in topics such as climate change. The CSA (Canadian Space Agency) will offer a total of $3.4M in grants to up to 12 teams as these teams will be asked to design, build and launch an end-to-end CubeSat or develop a standalone scientific experiment or instrument.

Taking inspiration from the CCP (Canadian CubeSat Project), the CSA intends to introduce a new CUBICS opportunity every 03 years to continue to encourage student learning.

The aim of the CUBICS is to be more cogitating of the requirements of new and experienced student teams directed by a professor, to allow them to take part in a mission as per their level of expertise, comfort, and readiness.

One of the CSA’s initiatives, CUBICS aim to furnish students with knowledge, experience, and skills to become in-demand candidates for the posts in space sector workforce of Canada. The CSA experts will also mentor the teams in preparation for their missions.
