D Chinmaya Gowda, a Class 09 student, has designed and developed an anti-sleep device for drivers. This device vibrates and sends an alarm to drivers in case they close their eyes for more than 02 seconds while driving, he informed.

The student of Jnanodaya Bethany PU College, Nellyadi, Chinmaya has named the device 'Lifeline Vinidraa'. The developing cost of the device is Rs. 1000. He added that the device is most useful at night as it can save the lives of the drivers during the night journey and it has no side effects.

He informed that he developed the device as a part of the competition in which the teachers had asked to look for a solution for any problem. He further informed that his school was located close to the Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway and they often witnessed accidents. As he tried to understand the cause, he noted that drowsy driving skills were the main problem that is preventable, he added. He discussed the issue with his father. He informed that it took him 02 months, under the guidance of his teachers, to develop a low-cost device. The device can be set in the spectacle frame, he added.

He worked on the device along with his classmate Rithik Shetty. Most of the materials needed for the device were procured online, he informed.

Chandrashekar Gowda, Chinmaya's father who is a businessman and agriculturist, informed that his son is also working on other aspects of the device. He added that the device can be improved with industry support and released into the market.

Chinmaya's school has also taken the decision to send the device for the National Science Project Competition.
