Columbia University has recently dropped the standardized test scores- SAT or ACT requirements for undergraduate admission in the 2023 session.

Columbia University is the first institution among the Ivy League Institutions to ditch the SAT and ACT requirements.

SAT is a standardized test widely compulsory for college admissions in the United States (USZ). Columbia University said it had designed the application to afford the most splendid opportunity and flexibility for students to represent themselves fully and showcase their academic talents, goals, and interests.

The university settled the SAT requirement and made it an option after the COVID-19 pandemic. It said students who prefer not to submit test scores would not be at a disadvantage in our procedure.

According to the reports, it said the decision to drop SAT was rooted in the belief that students are dynamic and multi-faced individuals who cannot be defined by any single factor.

The university said it would evaluate all submitted information within an individualized application review procedure considering the unique circumstances shaping each applicant's journey.

The admission process to Columbia University will now depend on the rigor of a student’s curriculum, their academic accomplishments, and their demonstrated intellectual curiosity will remain central to consideration. Standardized tests like SAT/ACT will be an option for applicants registering through Fall 2024.

According to the Post, Harvard University and Princeton have continued their test-optional policy through the 2025-2026 academic year.
