The Delhi University has taken the decision to provide a full fee waiver to students who have lost their one or both parents to COVID-19, notified officials.

The University has directed its colleges to schedule a survey and compose a list of the students who have lost their parents due to coronavirus. The DU is seeking the report regarding the matter by Monday, informed Balram Pani, the Dean of Colleges.

The fee will be waived by 100%. The exam fee will also not be charged.

At the varsity level, the University has information about the staff whose wards are studying and they would be granted a fee waiver. At the college level, the governing bodies will implement it. Such students have to submit certain documents, informed officials.

According to the officials, there are 03 types of colleges under the University: 1)Colleges maintained by university; 2)Colleges maintained by the trusts; and 3)Colleges fully/ partially funded by the Delhi Govt.

A total of 28 colleges fall under the fully or partially funded by the Delhi government category, including 12 fully funded colleges by the city dispensation.

One of the principals informed that there are 02 fees components i.e. the university component and college component. Only the respective colleges can waive off the college component whereas the university component is very meagre, he added.

Some colleges have already started the procedure at their level.
