Eco themed festivals, after-school classes on farming, inter-school competitions, are some of the initiatives taken by concerned citizens. These actions are based on a simple belief: Children are amenable and have a great latency to bring about change. Environment, they believe, ought to be taught in such a way that it becomes something they understand and care about.
A training camp in Channapatna for about 550 National Cadet Corps from the state, later this week, is being held on these lines. Stonesoup, along with Beautify Basavanagar, Manisha Agarwal, and Vasudha Narayanan, will handle the session.
Col. Rajeev Gupta of One Karnataka NCC Battalion, who initiated the camp, said,"Children who are conscious about the environment will be better citizens". He suggested to create teams that will convey the message to their corresponding schools and localities, Stonesoup's Arun says, "We believe in a model where children are at the center of major societal change".
