The team of ten girl students of the Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School had the proudest moment of their lives when the AzaadiSat of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) moved into orbit on August 7.
Space Kidz India and Indian Space Research Organization collaborated, and out of 75 schools across India, they selected the Government Senior Secondary School, Mall road, Amritsar. The principal, Mandeep Kaur, said that the collaboration aims to program a Raspberry Pi board which was meant to be installed in the maiden launch of ISRO's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). It is designed to orbit satellites weighing less than 500 kg in low Earth orbit.
The AzaadiSat satellite, planned to launch on August 7 from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, was specially approached for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the Government of India to celebrate and monumentalize the 75 years of Independence and its achievements. AzaadiSat Satellite Mission not only aims at being pride for the nation but also aims to be an inspiration for the youth and students to give thought to space research as their career.
A satellite of 8kg was meant to carry one of the 75 miniature payloads designed and prepared by the Girls of Mall Road School, Amritsar. Lecturer of Chemistry Kamal Kumar commented that it was a tough challenge for the students but not impossible for their hardworking students. He told that girls who actively participated in coding and developing the payload traveled by air to reach ISRO's Department of Science, along with the principal and other teachers, to witness the launch of AzaadiSat Satellite LIVE in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
