The researchers of the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar in collaboration with Monash University, Australia have developed a unique detector 'Fake Buster'. The aim of the detector is to identify the hoaxers attending a virtual conference uninformed.
It's a Deep Fakes Detection Tool for Video Conference environments. This tool can be used to detect if someone is manipulating or spoofing during the virtual meeting, especially in the current scenario when most of the work and meetings are being held online.
This tool can also detect the faces manipulated on the social sites to defame someone.
One of the members of the developing team Dr. Abhinav Dhall informed that the tool has achieved more than 90% accuracy. The other members of the team are Associate Professor Ramanathan Subramanian and two students Parul Gupta and Vineet Mehta.
A paper 'FakeBuster: A DeepFakes Detection Tool for Video Conferencing Scenarios' has also been presented in the twenty-sixth session of the International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces, USA.
This software has been tested with Skype and Zoom applications. The tool works in both modes i.e. online and offline. For now, the device can only be attached with desktops and laptops but the team is working to enable it to run on mobile phones also, as informed by Associate Professor Subramanian. The team is also working to use the tool to detect fake audio calls.
One-of-its-kind, this tool will soon be available in the market.
