International students studying in Germany or Canada more apparently immigrate to these countries than other OECD nations.

According to the the OECD report, over 60% of international students who obtained a study permit in 2015 were present in Germany and Canada even after 05 years of their initial admission. This percentage varies around half in New Zealand, Australia, and Estonia and around two in five in Japan and France. This share of students was less than 15% in Norway, Denmark, and Slovenia Italy, states the report.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) includes 38 member countries.

The Organization, in its International Migration Outlook 2022, states that almost all countries have exhibited extensive policies to retain international students after they complete their graduation. But other than Germany, no other country has been as successful in retaining these foreign graduates as Canada.

PGWP in Canada:

Through its PGWP (Post Graduation Work Permit) initiative, Canada provides an opportunity to international students to work after graduation by granting them a Canadian work permit for up to 03 years. The PGWP is exempted from LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) demands for graduates of an acknowledged post-secondary or a secondary school for at least 08 months.

Courses with duration from 08 months to 02 years permit the graduates to acquire a PGWP for their study duration. Foreign graduates studied for 02 or more years can qualify for a 03-year permit. Having this much work experience, international graduates can push up their CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) scores while applying for PR in Canada through the Express Entry system.

During the COVID pandemic, Canada was also flexible in accepting offline study time spent at home as eligibility towards the PGWP. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada also started accepting these hours for the PGWP to mitigate travel restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Surveys To Prove Canada As Top International Study Destination:

The international education trends' Australian experts have also reported in their survey that foreign students looking for the destination to study abroad believe that Canada had handled the situation of global pandemic in a much better way.

The latest report of OECD pinpoints the importance of foreign students in supporting the countries through jobs/ labours. The report adds, "International students who remain in the host country post-study have long-term employment rates that are on par with those of labour migrants and well above those of migrants overall".

International students constitute 07% of those enrolled in Bachelor’s courses, 17% of those pursuing Master’snand 26% of Doctoral students in OECD nations.
