Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar & Oil India signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint research partnerships between the two organisations in earth sciences, engineering, and basic sciences.
The research projects will focus on upstream, midstream, and downstream components of the oil and natural gas value chain, entailing hydrocarbon exploration, production, development, pipeline transportation, process technologies, and refining.
The research will also concentrate on the application of geosciences, design, engineering, chemical and process technologies, application of (GIS)- geographic information system, and distant sensing studies for upstream and midstream assets, including infrastructure developments and environmental studies, an alternate source of energy, carbon capture usage, and storage.
VK Tewari, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, suggested the team of professors respect the importance of time and always follow up so that the results will be observable. He also mentioned the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan & Viswaguru by 2047. He said the Karnataka government has a ton of expectations from industries and institutes.
Ranjit Rath, Oil India’s chairman & managing director, said the students and faculty members of IIT Bhubaneswar have the opportunity to interact with the Oil India team via this initiative. He added students and faculty members would get field experience with the technology involved in hydrocarbon exploration.
Rath said both teams would dig new frontier areas in the related field. The long-term goal for the MoU signed on Wednesday aims to build strong industry and academic interaction that will enable discoveries in academics and develop advanced technology for the industry.
