IIT Bombay & Google Cloud India Partner to Establish Chair Professorship Focusing on Advancing Generative AI Research

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) and Google Cloud India are embarking on a significant collaboration to establish an esteemed Chair Professorship dedicated to advancing research in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). This prestigious position will be known as the Google Cloud Chair.
In academic circles, the title of Chair represents one of the highest honors, typically associated with endowed professorships. The endowed Google Cloud Chair Professorship will play a pivotal role in driving and enriching research within academia while fostering research collaborations.
The appointed Chair Professor is expected to:
Initiate Academic Advancements: Develop new academic programmes and enhance existing ones in generative AI.
Collaborate with Google Cloud: Engage in collaborative endeavors and activities with Google Cloud, contributing to research and innovation.
Provide Academic and Technical Leadership: Assume a leadership role in academic and technical aspects of generative AI.
Furthermore, IIT Bombay and Google Cloud will collaboratively establish key performance indicators to evaluate the impact and contributions of the Chair Professorship.
Director of IIT Bombay, Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, underscored the pivotal role that such Chairs play in IIT Bombay's mission to attract the brightest students, researchers, and professors, fostering the development of future leaders and innovators.
Vice President of Engineering and Head of the India Development Center at Google Cloud, Anil Bhansali, highlighted their shared objective of establishing academic and technical leadership in the field of Generative AI. Additionally, they aim to offer expert guidance and support for Research and Development programs in collaboration with government agencies and industry partners.
