Sanjay Dhotre, the Union Minister of State for Education, launched a low-cost rapid antigen and diagnostic kit for COVID. The cost of the Kit which has been developed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, is just Rs. 50.

He congratulated IIT Delhi for developing a very low-cost test kit which can be really helpful in villages and remote areas. He added, "All the IITs have worked hard to address the need during the pandemic".

He also thanked the team of IIT Delhi for developing PPE Kits which were never developed in the nation before and they were exported. He called it an outstanding achievement.

The Director of IIT Delhi V Ramgopal Rao, while speaking at the occasion, informed that the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has already approved the Kit. He also informed that the Institute has licensed the technology to 02 companies.

Earlier, IIT Delhi had made the world's most affordable COVID Diagnostic Kit which was RT-PCR based. This diagnostic kit was available at Rs. 399 only.

Rao felt excited about the development of the rapid antigen and diagnostic kit. He also informed that Prof Harpal Singh and his team from IIT Delhi's Centre for Biomedical Engineering have developed the Kit. IIT Delhi has already patented the technology.
