The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati has set up the ICMR-DHR Center of Excellence. the Centre has been established for Biomedical Device and Diagnostics Innovation and Commercialization to serve the technological requirements of rural India focusing on healthcare delivery.



At present, the CoE is situated at the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology and the Centre of Nanotechnology, IIT Guwahati.



The initiative also acknowledges the National Education Policy 2020 wherein researchers, professors, students, entrepreneurs, and doctors from various departments can collaborate under a single umbrella to instill research and innovation in the healthcare innovation region. This initiative has been led by the departments of chemical engineering, chemistry, biosciences and bioengineering, design, electronics and electrical engineering, and mathematics, among others.



The Director of IIT Guwahati Professor TG Sitharam, while elaborating the work, said, "This Centre is working towards realizing the vision of Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister, that all IITs be involved in helping the nation in terms of achieving the goals of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in the domain of healthcare technology development".
