The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati has set up Advanced Microelectronics and Nano Energy facilities. The Institute has established these first-of-its-kind facilities at its Centre for Nanotechnology.

The aim of the Centre is to meet future demand and issues and augment academic partnerships in nanotechnology with industry.

The Centre will also carry out multidisciplinary translational research in the streams of nano biomaterials, health care, micro and nanoelectronics, nano-energy sensors and devices.

Since 2000, the institute has been working in the stream of nanotechnology and also holds records in multiple regions of nanotechnology and nanoscience, notified the officials.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Education Minister, inaugurated the new facility last month. The Institute funded the construction through the income generated by the ongoing work on nanotechnology at its institute.

This Institute has established ultra-modern facilities for nanofabrication. The facility has class 100 cleanroom facilities making it one of the major attractions and is also assured to produce major contributions in the streams of nanodevices development for healthcare, renewable energy - photovoltaics, thin-film transistors, light-emitting diodes, sensors, and other affiliated regions.

The Director of IIT Guwahati TG Sitharam said, "The faculty and scholars at this centre have demonstrated translational research capability resulting in several technology transfers and establishing few centres for excellence as well".

The Ministry of Education centre and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology funded the centre. It will host 25 modern laboratories that will target advancements in scientific, disciplinary, and translational research. The centre is furnished with cleanroom facilities consolidated with advanced fabrication, characterisation, and testing laboratories.
