The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has recently introduced two new MTech programmes- Unmanned aerial systems engineering and cognitive systems engineering. Interested students can register for these programmes from next year at the official website- iitk.ac.in.
Candidates should note that the GATE score will be an eligibility standard for admission in these two engineering programmes.
With the launch of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering makes IIT Kanpur becomes the first institute in India to offer a dedicated MTech programme in drone technology. Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering will provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge in order to become leaders in drone technology, which has multiple applications in fields such as transportation, agriculture, and defense. This newly introduced programme is in line with MeitY’s nationwide initiative on capacity building for drone technology with attentive interdisciplinary cooperation across different academic institutions, skilling bodies, and training centres.
The Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Kanpur, will host the interdisciplinary MTech course in Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering, in which the students will have to complete 150 credits over two years, including coursework and thesis research work.
The programme on Cognitive Systems is also being introduced as the first of its kind in the nation. This programme aims to help students acquire an in-depth understanding of the human mind and brain and use cognitive principles in fields such as human-computer interaction, neuroscience, and education. This programme is developed to bridge the void between basic research and applications.
The newly established Department of Cognitive Science will host the programme. The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is the first IIT to form a full-fledged department of Cognitive Science.
However, interested candidates should remember that these newly-approved programmes will be practical from the next academic session.
